| CREW PROFILES | | | Captain: Kirk Gilbert | Nationality: US | | Number of Crew: 1 or 2 | | Crew Profiles: SHIWARA’s skipper, Kirk Gilbert, lived in the BVI for 3 years, from 2003 – 2006. As a PADI SCUBA Instructor, diving first brought him to the islands where he worked for Sail Caribbean Divers on Tortola. It wasn’t long before his love of sailing took over and he found himself working as a freelance skipper doing charters and deliveries. In May 2006, Kirk took off on a delivery across the Pacific to Australia which allowed him to follow his passions of sailing, surfing and diving.
Returning to the British Virgin Islands as skipper of SHIWARA will allow Kirk to share his love of the ocean with his charter guests. Kirk is a keen surfer, knows all the spots (some secret) hidden around the BVI and he shapes custom surfboards for Cane Garden Bay Surfboards. So if it’s a wave you’re after, Kirk can get you to the right spot at the right time.
The cruising lifestyle first drew Kirk to sailing 10 years ago as he sailed off the coasts of California, Mexico and Central America. Kirk now has the MCA endorsed RYA Yachtmaster Offshore captain’s license, as comfortable with ocean passages as he is with sailing from beach bar to beach bar in the BVI. He’s happy to sail SHIWARA single-handed or sit back and let his guests sail her to the chosen destination.
An avid water sports enthusiast, Kirk loves fishing, there’s always a lure trolling behind SHIWARA waiting for a tuna, mahi-mahi or wahoo to make itself dinner. SHIWARA has a powerful dinghy with a 50 horse power engine perfect for pulling a wakeboarder, waterskiier or the tube. Kirk knows the reefs and wrecks around the BVI are some of the world’s best for SCUBA diving and snorkeling, he’ll safely take you into the ocean environment.
Let Kirk make your experience in the British Virgin Islands aboard SHIWARA an adventure you’ll never forget…
