Crew Profile: James Micklem & Carlene Williams
Captain & Chef SY AKASHA
James Micklem (30) is from Cornwall, England, and spent his childhood helping on the family farm as well as sailing, competing on a triathlon squad, and playing rugby and hockey. An avid sportsman, James is an accomplished Tennis coach, skier & snowboarder, as well as windsurfer & dingy sailor. After completing an Honors degree in Geography, James managed an award winning bar & restaurant.
James completed his MCA/RYA Yacht Master based in the Solent, and has spent the last 2 years gaining invaluable experience as Captain aboard the highly acclaimed Whitbread 60 and Clipper 60 race yachts with great success, he particularly excelled in teaching and entertaining corporate clients.
Carlene Williams (27) also hails from England, and her natural creative talents led her to achieving an Honors degree in Fine Art. Traveling South America, Asia and New Zealand/Australia inspired Carly’s passion for both photography and culinary crafts, which she honed with culinary courses in Thailand and the UK.
Carly stepped into the yachting industry and landed on her feet working as sous chef aboard a 150 ft motor yacht. During a two year circumnavigation, Carly cooked for up to 14, and assisting the head chef in all areas of galley duties as well as stepping in as head chef when required. A keen scuba diver, she was able to dive with sharks in the Galapagos as well as the beautiful pristine reefs of South Eastern Asia. Whilst in Thailand she learnt the art of fruit carving.
Together James and Carly make an exceptional team, along with their yachting experience, James’s calm and safety conscious nature complements Carly’s creative talents & attention for detail, to make a balanced and professional team.
Stewardess Annie and Mate Bodhi
Annie (26) is from Kent, England where from a young age her inquisitive nature developed a thirst to travel and explore. Her enthusiasm for sport and adventure let her to climb her 1st mountain range at 18 in Morocco. She Volunteered in the Bahamas as a marine biology diver and later went onto travel Europe and Asia where she pursued her love for the ocean.
After completing a Honours degree in Advertising , Annie´s passion for the ocean brought her into yachting, previously based in Europe she is thrilled to be in the Caribbean in such a stunning location.
Annie has an extensive background in hospitality from 5 star boutique hotels in the UK to being a Divemaster in Cyprus. A trained massage therapist Annie can ease away any tensions with a Swedish Massage.
Bodhi (26) from Milton Keynes, England, is a accomplished artist and diver with a passion for photography. He completed an Honours degree in animation at university however his love for the outdoors led him into diving where he became a Divemaster in Cyprus. A keen interest for underwater photography, his creative eye captures some stunning images.
Bodhi´s adventurous nature has taken his through parts of Europe, Thailand, Laos and the Philippines. He has had the opportunity to live amongst local communities, swim with whale sharks, live in a tree house in the rainforest with gibbon monkeys, and finally come into yachting!
A superb cocktail maker from his years in hospitality Bodhi will gladly shake up any cocktail of your choice or invent a new one to your liking. Annie and Bodhi has successfully worked together for almost four years, their friendly, kind nature and fun outgoing energy for the outdoors will make you charter memorable.
