Possibly the thing I like most about my position is my freshness of attitude as a result of sharing this dream job with my second life and girlfriend of 22 years, our two dogs and our home in Colorado. Sailing with guests and friends is sharing in the joy of what I see as one of life's most memorable experiences, it's as rewarding as those "postcard" moments we all see from the sport, but few share in.

My first Captains license dates back to the mid 1980's when the Caribbean and the fleet of charter boats seemed in its infancy by comparison to today. But now we save time and effort with the many conveniences, the availability of quality supplies, and the comforts ashore. As Captain my goal is to safely transport and train (if desired), in any and all the skills these relatively self sufficient "islands" can afford, and by navigating alongside one can see how we can safely use only the wind to get to where we see fit for the size and pleasures of this boat and its people.

Growing up in the San Francisco bay area introduced me to sailing, and with the family lakeside cabin in Tahoe I had the perfect venue. Waterskiing in the early glassy mornings and sailing in the warmed land breeze afternoons. Tahoe soon became the summer and winter choice and college at University of California in Santa Barbara found me at times living on a sailboat in the city marina, working nights at the Chart House, attending classes by day and racing on weekends. Winter quarter I would retreat to Tahoe working nights at Victoria Station and skiing days. Summer quarter would be classes and sailboat racing back in Santa Barbara. From there it was traveling between Colorado and the rest of the world often hitching rides on boats crossing oceans. After one such trip from New Zealand to the Bahamas I returned home to Crested Butte to be offered a position on a brand new Swan 57, a year in production in Finland. I took off west and a year later of overlanding met the boat to sail the Baltic, the Atlantic and into and around the Mediterranean before crossing to Barbados, my first captains position in 1980.

My cruising, racing and deliveries have taken me from Finland to New Zealand, From Turkey to Japan but mostly in between, the northeast United States, and my favorite, the Caribbean. I look forward to sharing all the best of this boat, this crew, and the friendship and congeniality of this floating, yet first class traveling resort.

Chef: Erik Walnum

Being a native New Englander it's easy to have an appreciation of the four seasons of sports; be it skiing and snowboarding, hiking, camping and cycling, or the lake and ocean marvels of the New Hampshire seacoast. Indoor activities are highlighted by cooking, or reading about top chefs and creating one's own recipes. Drawing and sketching with different mediums and now digital photography are another sidelight. In addition having a mother in the airline industry made for a wealth of family travel and vacations between skiing in the western states and sailing charters in the Caribbean.

Upon high school graduation it was onto a degree in Hospitality Management at the Whitmore School of Business and Economics at the University of New Hampshire. To satisfy major requirements meant getting to work at local restaurants: refining hospitality, bartending and especially cooking skills was the root of inspiration to master the artistry of creating excellent fresh and seasonal food. Seeing a calling, culinary school at Johnson and Wales was a natural in concentrating the learning experience. From there it was chef on a motor yacht in British Columbia, working under one of Food and Wines top ten chefs back on the New Hampshire seacoast, becoming a full time personal chef for a New England family, and presently borrowed from Boston's renowned Four Seasons Hotel.

Still with other passions, these acquired skills, and those pending are a look forward to the inviting environment of life at sea and the cultural diversity of island living and provisioning; and utmost, the catering to the discriminating fine tastes of the Yachting clientele as a perfect venue for travel, adventure, pairing of fine wines with the freshest of the local foods and fish and all served in a comfortable at home hospitality.

Engineer/Deckhand: Nicolas McCarthy

High school in New Hampshire was a chance for Nicolas to participate in team sports all well as compete in vocational award challenges, with success, including a welcome $60,000 in scholarship funding. From there it was technical certificates in automotive and diesel mechanics from the Mercedes Benz Elite training facility. Years served as a Mercedes technician diagnosing and repairing all models, service consultant dispatching work to the appropriate tech, and finally in charge of recruitment and training of entry level techs, while still responsible for customer satisfaction. Working with a high quality product, with high quality technicians and for a quality client base is a good foothold for the level and demands of the quality expected and achieved in this boat.

For Nicolas, college was also in the mix with studies in business administration and political science at the University of New Hampshire, with participation in, and seats held on the student senate and as Phi Mu Delta secretary.

The sailing of catamarans and one design racing monohulls will play a big part in appreciating the power and efficiency of this big yacht.
