WANDERLUST

CREW PROFILES
Captain: Richard NicholNationality: USA
Number of Crew: 6
Crew Profiles:
Everyone always comments that it is the crew that makes the charter and this is where Wanderlust really has the advantage.
Wanderlust knows that impressive service starts with an impressive crew. Aboard Wanderlust you will find a commitment to service everywhere. In order to offer the superior service expected of the islands premier charter yacht, Wanderlust employs a multilingual international crew of six with combined charter experience greater than that of any other yacht in the Virgin Islands. Having the largest crew for a boat of this size in the Caribbean, enables us to provide you with the service you would expect of a luxury resort. We could make do with fewer crew, but then the range of activities and quality of service offered would also be reduced.

The crew are selected for their outgoing personalities as well as their professional skills. All the crew are multi-talented with a variety of skills. They are hardworking and resourceful types and can best be described as "people persons". Many have college degrees or other professional qualifications and have chosen this life because they love what they are doing.

The crew's duties encompass many different areas on a daily basis; captain, diplomat, plumber, comedian, diving instructor, dishwasher, nanny, electrician, bartender, chef, raconteur, mechanic, sailor, nurse, wine waiter, psychotherapist, water sports coach, photographer, chambermaid, croupier, rigger, fisherman, sailing instructor, hiking guide, waiter, wind surfing instructor and many more. For example a steward may be taking you water skiing in the morning, teaching you to Laser sail after lunch and mixing you a margarita at sundown.

Captain Dick Nichol, the builder/owner of Wanderlust, was one of the pioneers of chartering large multi-hulls in the mid seventies. Dick holds a US Coast Guard 300 ton Ocean Operator license as well as a British Master license. Dick has been chartering in the British Virgin Islands for over 20 years. His knowledge of the waters and hidden anchorages is unmatched. Dick is also an avid SCUBA diver and holds a PADI Dive Master rating. He discovered many dive sites that are now standard stops for the local dive agencies. He has not given away all his secrets though. He still knows many sites held exclusively for Wanderlust guests of all skill levels. During his 25 years of chartering experience, Dick has polished the hiring and training skills he developed as a corporate manager in his former career.
You would be hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable and experienced captain to guide you through the British Virgin Islands.

Craig Norton takes on the position of Wanderlust's First Mate.
Born in South Africa, he and his family decided to make the Atlantic crossing to the Caribbean in order to pursue a life living onboard their sailboat. Growing up, and living on boats, Craig has continuously been near to the sea. He was sailing before able to walk, and diving at the age of 12; he has been active in most water sports and enjoys a healthy lifestyle on the water. Craig’s main passion is surfing, but he also takes pleasure in sailing and diving. With a sailing instructor and experienced seaman for a father, it is only natural that he possesses a great admiration and respect for the ocean. Craig has logged many sea miles delivering boats both locally and internationally. At the age of 18 he purchased his first boat and is still contentedly living on the water. Craig is also proficient with computers specializing in graphic art and web design. He takes care of our websites and all computer related issues in the office. Craig brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to the Wanderlust team.

Chris Norton, also from South Africa, fills the position as Head Steward and water sports instructor on board Wanderlust. He has spent his entire life on the ocean and has been sailing since a baby. Living in such close proximity to the sea has given him a thorough understanding of yacht operation as well as all water sports; diving, surfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, sailboat racing and dinghy racing being just a few of them. Chris has logged many sea miles whilst traveling throughout the Caribbean and Eastern United States,as well as a transatlantic crossing with his family. Chris's skills continue, as he holds certifications in photography and is a self-taught graphic artist. Chris will also be mixing your margarita's, Pina Colada's, daiquiri's and other tasteful delights at the bar. Always enthusiastic and eager to help,Chris will do his utmost to deliver the assistance and service one needs on a luxury yacht.

As diligent as any crew can be, they are still viewed only as good as the victuals they present. So it can be said, the most important position on any yacht is the Chef and the quality of his presentations. Knowing this, we go to great lengths to ensure we hire only the most qualified and experienced Chefs in the industry.
Our Chef, Matthew Dusharme, fills that position.
Raised in San Diego California, Matthew has worked in the food industry for 16 years. In the early 90’s he received his Food Service Production and Food Service Management diploma's from the National Restaurant Association. From there he studied at the Colorado Mountain College and worked as Kitchen Manager in the Echo Canyon Guest Ranch. Returning to his studies he completed his Associate Arts and Sciences degree at the Pueblo Community College. Matthew was then recruited as Head Chef for the NSF (National Science Foundation) at the Mc Murdo Station, Antarctica.
This is the ultimate training ground for long-term provisioning!
After thawing out he returned to his studies and graduated from The Culinary Institute of America with an Executive Chef’s Excellence Program Certification. Prior to joining the Wanderlust staff, Matthew held the position of Executive Chef for the Timberghost Ranch, an upscale hunting resort in Iowa.
Now in his second season with Wanderlust, Matt has added Scuba diving and sailing to his skills and continues to astound guests with the many culinary delights he presents.

Candice Nichol, our Stewardess, is a British Virgin Islands native. Having lived in the Virgin Islands, Costa Rica, and the Florida Keys, Candice is quite comfortable with the tropical way of life. She has experienced many different places and cultures, and prefers to reside in the picturesque BVI where she has spent much of her life. Candice is continuing her education while studying at the University of Arizona in Tucson. She is currently on a year of sabbatical from school, which allows her the time she needs to work. Upon her return to Arizona she plans to continue her undergraduate studies and earn a Bachelor of Architecture degree. In her leisure time, Candice is involved in activities like surfing, snorkeling, windsurfing, sailing, and wakeboarding. Having been scuba diving since the age of ten, Candice is currently furthering her scuba career by studying to be a certified Rescue Diver. She is always up for a challenge and enjoys trying new things. One thing that isn’t new to her though, is Wanderlust. She has been sailing on the yacht nearly her entire life. Having worked on countless charters over the years, she looks forward to maintaining the high standard of service that is expected aboard.

Deborah Lewis joined the Wanderlust team in November 2003 as our SCUBA Diving Instructor/Stewardess. Born in the UK, she has traveled extensively throughout her life, growing up in the Far and Middle East in between a boarding school education in the UK. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Modern Languages and speaks French and Spanish fluently. In love with the ocean and a certified diver at the age of 14, she is passionate about the sport and especially in teaching people who have never experienced the underwater world before. All her instructor training took place in the cold waters of England– and although this was excellent training, she vowed never to dive in cold water again! With that in mind she has since enjoyed teaching in Thailand, the Canary Islands and Tobago until finally discovering the beautiful BVI’s. In her spare time she loves to travel and experience new cultures and traditions as well as running her own website dedicated to divers worldwide. She brings a great deal of experience, warmth and humor to the team.
