Peter Martin Captain
Peter has been with Carib Queen for six years. Born and raised In Johannesburg South Africa he spent his vacations on the Natal South Coast and the Cape where he found his love for the ocean. After working in the service industry for his early years he quickly found himself in management positions. After managing many successful nightclubs and restaurants he finally opened his own Portuguese restaurant with a child hood friend. After four years of the restaurant business he moved to Florida USA where he has excelled in the Yachting industry. Having traveled the East coast of the US, Bahamas and Caribbean for the last six years he is very competent end enthusiastic and loves chartering. Meeting new people and sharing his world is what drives him.
Ilan Oosthuisen Mate/Engineer
Born and raised in South Africa, Ilan has had a passion for boats and sailing his whole life, from his first sail boat at seven to national service in the South African Navy. After delivering a sail boat to the Annapolis boat show, Ilan was exposed to the yachting world and hasn’t looked back. Over the last five years he has worked on the 168’ Aurora, traveling to The Mediterranean and as second engineer on the 153’ Argyll. Ilan loves being on the water and looks forward to taking you sailing, fishing or snorkeling.
Beverly Van Der Westhuizen Chief Stewardess
Bev was born and raised in South Africa. After studying towards a BSc degree her interest in traveling, love of the sea and a sound background in the service industry led her to the yachting industry.
She has worked on various boats over the last five years and enjoys making sure that everything is just right for guests while they are on board. Yachting has allowed Bev to see a lot of the world from New Zealand, Australia and Costa Rica to the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. She has a keen interest in alternative medicine and is a pianist so in her spare time she looks for opportunities to tickle the ivories.
Gerard Pond Chef
Gerard Pond, a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, has moved quickly through the ranks of the foodservice industry. Capitalizing on not just his baking and cooking skills, but also his managerial abilities, Jerry relocated from Boston to Fort Lauderdale ten years ago to open the successful and award winning Stork's Bakery. Prior to joining the crew of M/Y Carib Queen, he was operating as a freelance restaurant consultant in South Florida. Bringing his expansive skill set into the world of yachting presented him with yet another unique career opportunity: a perfect environment to showcase his talents and love of all things culinary on an intimate and personal level. A self professed "food nerd," he takes special delight in introducing guests to new cuisines and the reinvention of familiar ones.
