As a son of an embassy’s agent, Captain Eddy Guzman started travelling at a young age. The rest of his childhood was mostly spent in Paris. His love for sailing began when he started taking up the sport through his school, where he sailed mostly on lakes.
At ten he had his first racing experience on an Optimist sail boat that took him from France to the Caribbean. After a few years of sailing instruction, he decided to try an office job in the medical field; however, after a few years he went back to his first love – sailing! He has worked as a sail instructor as well as water skiing instructor. Eddy holds a Yacht Masters 200 ton license, and is fluent in English, French, and Spanish. He has skippered boats up to 90’ to include the Eastern and Western Med and Croatia and Balearics, as well as having cruised the entire Caribbean, encompassing a career of 20 years.
Still, the best thing about Captain Eddy Guzman is his winning smile and “can do” personality, coupled with his hands on capability with sailing and mechanics to ensure your time on board.
First mate/Chef Katka Jacz is a Dutch citizen who has lived and worked around the Caribbean for many years. She met Eddy in St Maarten and together they have sailed many deliveries and worked on day sailing charters together around St Maarten. Her duties have been as varied as snorkling instructor and safety supervisor, to hostess and mate.
Katka grew up close to the beach with a love of sports, especially those in and around the water. She is an avid kite-surfer and holds a PADI Divemaster’s certificate. Other sports in which she excels are wake boarding, surfing, skiing, snowboarding, and tennis! Her career started in the service industry, where she has worked as a hostess and restaurant manager. Katka looks forward to being able to present an array of cuisine for Cap II’s discriminating guests, gathering from her European background and charter and restaurant experience. She is excited to be able to combine her passion for boating and the sea with her service industry skills.
Katka speaks fluent Dutch and English, and is well versed in Czech, French and basic German as well. Her charm, vivacious energy, and desire to please make her the perfect addition to Cap II.
