Captain Francisco Chadinha
Francisco was born in South Africa but his father’s family was originally from Madeira, Portugal. Francisco left South Africa after school to broaden his horizons and ended up in a small Village on the border of France and Italy. It was here that he was introduced to the yachting world. He started off as a young deckhand on board a small yacht. It did not take Francisco very long to realize that this had become his passion and quickly educated himself in the yachting industry. Francisco continued his yachting career on various high profile yachts. During his 13 years of being a professional yachtsman he had the opportunity to acquaint himself in the Mediterranean, the U.S. east and west coast, Caribbean, Mexico, Honduras, Australia and a wide area of Asia and the South Pacific. Francisco is a “hands on” captain and he knows what it takes to make the experience on board LADY JOY an unforgettable one.
Chief Engineer Justin De Chalain
Justin is 34 years old and joins us from his home town of Johannesburg. Justin has been yachting for 13 years and started his career on such racing sailing yachts as Shamrock V and Meteor. After studying his engineering courses he began a career on motor yachts and joined the Christensen Nice & Easy. From here Justin decided that he liked the Christensen’s and wanted to move to charter, which is where Lady Joy became his home. When Justin isn’t in the engine room he can be found enjoying such things as spear fishing and diving, he is a great lover of the sea and is on hand 24/7 for any of your questions and needs. Feel free to ask to see the engine room as Justin is very proud of his domain.
First Officer Joey Viljoen
Joey grew up in the Richmond District in the Klein Karoo, South Africa. Joey is a keen traveler and for the last 10 years he has worked all over the world in different service industry sectors. Joey was introduced to the yachting industry through his friends and permanently joined the industry shortly thereafter. He has worked on the 32m Charter Yacht, Wheels, 50m M/Y Ohana and the 47m M/Y Jana. He has proven himself as a loyal and knowledgeable individual and a real perfectionist in his job. He keeps the boat in immaculate condition and you are in good hands with Joey whether on a tender ride or a leisurely snorkel. As all South Africans, he’s a big Rugby fan and enjoys spending his down time watching his favorite team Western Provence.
Chief Stewardess Shelley Howard
Shelley Howard is the Chief Stewardess and hails from the vibrant seaside town of Brighton on the South Coast of England. Shelley has been in yachting for ten years, where she has worked her way up through the ranks on some very large and busy charter yachts. She takes great pride in being able to ensure all our guests have the best possible experience and stay onboard with the highest level of service possible. She is a creative person and thrives on being able to transform tables to emphasize the fantastic meals we serve on ‘Lady Joy’, she was rewarded for her great table designs and led the team in the best service category at both the Sint Maarten and Antigua Charter Shows. Her experience lists everything from a 52m sailboat, to the 72m motor yacht ‘SKAT’ and just recently she ran the interior of ‘TALITHA G’ and has served guests that include British and Hollywood royalty. Shelley loves to sew, design jewelry and spending time with friends and family.
2nd Stewardess Lylani Niemand
Lani grew up on the south coast of South Africa, where her love of the ocean began. After high school she joined the University of Stellenbosch to complete her Bachelors of Education degree. Being surrounded with the best wine region of South Africa, she quickly acquired a taste for good wine.
Prior to entering the yachting world, she started her working career as a school teacher where she learned to appreciate different cultures and religions.
Stewardess Anje Theron
Anje is a 22 year old South African that grew up in a coastal village near Cape Town. Her Mum owns a restaurant where she has been helping out since a very early age.
After school she took a gap year where she went to Australia and there she worked at a school in their outdoor education department. Her love for the outdoors led her to follow in her sisters footsteps and joined the yachting industry in 2008. She worked as a stewardess on M/Y Big D for 18 months and then did a very busy Meditterranean season on M/Y Xanadu. Anje loves travelling, meeting new people and spending time with loved ones.
Stewardess, Kirstin Podmore
Kirstin Podmore was born and raised in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. Kirstin moved to the wine lands in the Cape to study Humanities at the University of Stellenbosch and achieved a post-grad in Marketing and Advertising. She then travelled to the United States where she spent four months working at a Ski-Resort in Idaho. Kirstin’s love for travelling and people took her to Europe where she entered into the yachting industry and spent a year on the busy charter yacht Big Eagle. Kirstin enjoys photography and is fantastic with children. She will ensure that you have the most enjoyable experience possible here on Lady Joy.
Deckhand, Mark Bosman
Mark was born in Kokstad, Kwa-Zula Natal, South Africa. He was raised on a cattle farm in South Africa where he learned the value of hard work and working as part of a team. After finishing school, he studied financial management at Stellenbosch University. After finishing his study Mark’s passion for adventure brought him into yachting. Big Eagle was Mark’s first experience on a boat. He likes to travel and meet new people. During his time off the boat, Mark enjoys wakeboarding and water skiing.
Deckhand Kevin Klatt
Kevin was raised in the Midwest around the Great Lakes. He grew up in the bustling city of Chicago and the small town of Fish Creek in Michigan. Before joining the yachting industry he studied Kinesiology and earned his Holistic Health Practitioner Degree in San Diego. As a massage therapist and physical therapist assistant Kevin worked closely with various medical professionals for over 10 years. He enjoys a variety of outdoors and athletic activities such as kayaking, swimming and beach volleyball. He also recently received his PADI open water Diver Certificate and looks forward to helping you with your next adventure.
Deckhand Matt Bartlett
Matt Bartlett was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. After completing his schooling he started working as an Electrician for a profession. He left Australia at an early age where he found the love for traveling which led him to the yachting industry. As our longest serving deckhand Matt can help you with any of your questions or water sports needs. Matt loves being on the ocean where he enjoys various water sports such as fishing and jet skiing.
His vibrant personality and always being there to help fellow crew members makes him a perfect asset to the crew of Lady Joy.
Head Chef Sandra Mastrantone
Originating from Australia and growing up in an all Italian family Sandras love of food and cuisine began with her fathers keen ideas on good Italian cooking and fresh produce that he had grown himself. Sandra started her career in some of the best restaurants in Adelaide and Melbourne, she worked her way up through the ranks working with some prominent chefs in Australia such as Jacques Raymond, before she was hired in Australia to join the yachting industry. It is here that Sandra found herself working on some of the most prestigious charter yachts in the industry such as Altitude, Silver Angel and Xanadu. Sandra is well versed in all types of cooking and she loves to hear the guests feedback and input so feel free to visit her in the galley to discuss menus and ideas you have for meals on Lady Joy.
Chef Chris McNamara
Chris grew up in the North of England with a French mother and British father. During his youth he spent much time in both countries and it is here he decided to start his culinary training in Paris. Chris started to travel by going to the ski resorts and working in some of the luxury chalets that they have to offer. He then made the transition to yachting where he has now settled into. Like Sandra, Chris also likes to establish from the guests their favorite meals and loves to make sure that everyone goes away from our tables full and happy.
