Owner-operator / Captains Matthew Mortensen and Andrea Knutson are US Coast Guard licensed Captains and Frist Aid / CPR certified.
Matthew Mortensen grew up in the Puget Sound area. From childhood he spent weekends and summers sailing and exploring the Inside Passage with his family aboard a 36 foot sloop. He is an experienced marine mechanic and electrician who, in the off season, runs his own marine systems business. Delivering yachts up and down the Pacific coast as far north as Ketchikan and south as Costa Rica, he has accumulated the blue-water experience necessary to safely navigate vessels in any circumstance. Equipped with an open-minded, outgoing and adventuresome personality, he easily initiates lively conversations with anyone concerning almost anything. A lifetime of sailing, backpacking and back country skiing has instilled wide knowledge of northwest coast flora and fauna. Applauded for fantastic food preparation, his love of cooking will be evident at first bite.
Andrea Knutson grew up on a family-owned dairy farm in Minnesota. Her initial love of the water arose through family excursions, swimming, hiking and canoeing along the Mississippi River. A visit to Seattle during college stimulated a move to the Pacific Northwest shortly after her graduation from Winona State University where she graduated with a degree in Social Services. If friendliness is a stereotype attributed to Midwestern people, then Andrea adds clout to the cliché. Fun-loving and easy going, yet determined and tough, she has the grit it takes for long, tough passages. Her specialty is spotting hard-to-see wildlife on shore.
Ruby Two-Shoes, the resident Golden Retirever, is nine years old; and, no, those white marks aren't from her sunglasses. Her jobs include licking up crumbs, and standing watch for the occasional deadhead or dolphin. She will alert us to any flotsam with an energetic bark followed by a sprint aft on the deck. She is our family princess and she appreciates a good neck rub, and she does not shed! |
